The third week in September marks National Rehabilitation Awareness Week. First celebrated in 1976, this week is a time to recognize the important role of physical rehabilitation in helping people overcome the effects of illness, injury and/or disability and look toward the future with hope and confidence.
Since 2007, Sheltering Arms has taken the lead in Virginia and collaborated with the Governor to declare this week Rehabilitation Awareness Week in the commonwealth. Signed by Governor McDonnell and Secretary of the Commonwealth, Janet Vestal Kelly, this year’s Certificate of Recognition calls for all citizens to appreciate the many contributions made to our communities by people with disabilities, as well as the value of rehabilitation medicine in helping them meet their challenges.
Please join Sheltering Arms in celebrating all of our patients, and those throughout our great state and nation, who have found the power to overcome challenges resulting from illness or injury through physical rehabilitation. Happy Rehab Week!
